Natural running

THERE´S NOT ONE PERFECT RUNNING STYLE.
OUR RUNNING IS MORE LIKE OUR FINGERPRINTS.
AS UNIQUE AS OUR BODIES ARE DIFFERENT.
EVERYONE'S GOT THE POTENTIAL TO REACH
THEIR PERFECT RUNNING STYLE.

WHAT IS NATURAL RUNNING?
Natural Running is the way nature intended us to run, with quick reactive feet. Landing on the mid-foot or close to mid-foot, using gravity as a forward force. At Salming we would like to help you run naturally, more efficiently and injury free. We focus on running form and technique and design shoes that facilitate for you to run in a natural running style.

NATURAL RUNNING SHOES ARE:
Lightweight with less cushioning. Flexible, especially in the forefoot. Flat with a low drop designed to let your foot move freely and naturally. As a result, they offer a more direct and responsive ground feeling.

BENEFITS OF NATURAL RUNNING TECHNIQUE IN SHORT:
Your body’s own natural cushioning anatomy can be utilized to a full extent. Minimal energy loss on foot strike, as foot strike occurs under the center of mass. Use the “free” energy - gravity to your advantage. A better running form, natural running can be effective in preventing injury. With natural running shoes your foot receives less guidance and support, so it has to utilize the entire foot muscles instead. The arch is constructed with a flexible and elastic web that consist of 26 bones, 33 joints, 12 elastic tendons and 18 muscles that all tense and stretch together and functions like a spring when running naturally.

SALMING AND NATURAL RUNNING:
From the start in 2014 Salming set out to revolutionize how to design natural running shoes . A lot has changed since then. But the core remains; The design and construction of our shoes can be derived from the natural running technique and the bio-mechanical laws that govern how the human body moves when running. Natural running shoes should be designed to support you to find the right running technique and form. We put a lot of attention into detail so you can crush your fastest times. At Salming we don't just design running shoes, we design a running experience.

Our philosophy in five steps

”AT SALMING, WE DON’T JUST DESIGN
RUNNING SHOES, WE DESIGN
A
RUNNING EXPERIENCE”

We have a holistic view on running. Our philosophy lays the foundation on how we build and engineer running shoes.
The design and construction of our shoes can be derived from the natural running technique, let us explain:

1. Defying Gravity

Don’t let anything hold you back from achieving your PB. Lightweight shoes improves running efficiency with a approximately 2-3% per 100 g reduction in shoe weight. Lightweight shoes will cut minutes away from your PB. Using the right materials in the midsole helps eliminate impact and gives back energy into every step.

2. Flexible shoes

The shoe flexibility should imitate the foot flexibility in order to facilitate a natural running technique. Our shoes are built with a mid-foot landning sweet spot. When landing on the sweet spot transform your motion into forward momentum.

3. Heel striking – The enemy of good running form

Low Heel to Toe Drop facilitates correct foot landing at the ball of the foot (sweet spot). In addition you become more naturally balanced with gravity without adjusting body position. It´s also more likely that you will stop making heel strikes with lower drop, heel strikes makes you up to 3 times your body weight, putting a lot of pressure on joints and ligaments. When heel striking you will loose all energy and force forward which slows you down and prevent you to crush your goals. The arch area of the shoe should not be pushed up too much as it prevents the arch’s natural cushioning and spring function.

4. Maximal feeling

Improves sensory feedback from feet to brain. The foot automatically senses information from the ground contact with each and every step. With this data, your brain responds accordingly. If the midsole is too thick the sensory feedback gets distorted – it would be equivalent to put ski gloves on your hands when typing on a keyboard. The level of thickness is variable to what surface one runs on.

5. Fit for you!

A relatively roomy toe box is preferable so the toes are not pinched together. We want the foot to be able to function exactly as nature intended it to. Gender specific fit has comfort right where women and men need it.
